What’s Next for President and Michelle Obama?

obamabannerPreparing for their White House exit. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, along with their teenage girls, Sasha and Malia have scored themselves a spectacular 8,200 square-foot rental in one of Washington, DC’s most elegant and upscale neighborhoods – Kalorama – as their first home post-presidency. The flawless gardens and marble fountains of this expensive area is close to all Washington attractions.

The other attraction to this property is keeping young Sasha at her current high school. 14-year-old Sasha is a student at Sidwell Friends School. President Obama realizes how hard it is for a teenager to have to start over in the middle of high school, and is respecting his daughter’s position.

Malia is taking a year off at the time of her family’s White House departure, and will then attend Harvard.

The home at Kalorama boasts many features fit for a former leader of the free world. The Obamas will not miss the luxury of the White House as they transition back to civilian life.

The highly coveted, sprawling home features more than enough room for the elite family of four. With nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms, everyone will get their own private space, including guests!

Speaking of guests, the Obamas will still be able to entertain their friends in the large reception area, and spacious, pastel living room that opens up into the well maintained gardens.

Even more inviting to the family and their guests is the fireplace for cold, Washington winter nights, and a smaller, cozy sitting room for more intimate gatherings.

Family friendly dining area and gourmet kitchen will absolutely suit the former first family for regular meals and holiday. There is a butler pantry in case they can’t give up all of their staff, but there isn’t much room for their whole entourage of service employees. (PS: There’s even a second kitchen!)

The “rumpus room” is more equipped for very young children, which Sasha and Malia are far too old to really take advantage of. Perhaps future grandchildren? This room will remain unused for the time being…

As President and Mrs. Obama will likely be alone in the house for the majority of the time, they can make use of the upstairs library, wet bar, and wine cellar.

Their Master Suite includes a sitting area and two bathrooms. This is excellent news for Michelle Obama, who will have her own bathroom, decorated with portraits of George and Martha Washington.

To keep Mrs. Obama’s fashionable wardrobe in tip top shape, the master suite also bears a dressing area with enormous closet space.

Certainly, a big draw for Barack and Michelle is the exercise space on the top floor.

This upscale home has an elite historical draw, as well. Former Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt each lived there for a time. Donald Rumsfeld rented Kalorama when he ran the Pentagon for George W. Bush.

The Obamas also have quite fancy neighbors. The French ambassador’s residence is just up the road. If Hillary Clinton doesn’t move back into the White House next year, she’ll be spending time in her second home nearby, just off of Embassy Row (another upscale, pricey neighborhood).

Once President Obama’s White House time is up, his family will sure be comfortable and among good company in this Washington, D.C. suburb.
