It’s important to look back sometimes and give proper respect to the people who defined certain eras. Some of the hottest women ever were from the 90s. Join us as we look back and reminisce to some of the models, television stars, and other sex symbols that defined the era.
THEN: Rebecca was known in the 90s for her smoking hot body and her appearances in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit editions.
NOW: Rebecca left the world of modeling and transitions into a Hollywood actress. You can catch her as Mystique in the X-Men movies. She divorced John Stamos, and is currently married with twin girls to Jerry O’Connell.
THEN: Anderson became a sexy symbol for her breast implants. She was the big bust icon during the hit TV series “Baywatch” and “Home Improvement.”
NOW: Pamela continued her acting and modeling career and added producer, author, activist to her resume.
Anna Nicole Smith
THEN: Smith became well known after appearing on the cover of Playboy Magazine on March 1992. Her career quickly took off. She appeared as Playmate of the Month for May and later replaced supermodel Claudia Schiffer in a Guess jeans ad campaign.
NOW: Smith tried out the world of Hollywood as a film actress but her career never really took off. Unfortunately, she finally got her shot when she became known for her addiction to drugs during her reality show. At age 39 she passed away in a Florida hotel room as a result of an overdose of prescription drugs in 2007.
THEN: Schiffer gained her sex symbol status for her Brigitte Bardot looks and sexy Guess ads.
NOW: She was once engaged to magician David Copperfield. The German model is now married to X-Men director Mathew Vaughn. They have three kids together.
THEN: Evangelista was known for her boyish, close-cropped style. It quickly became her trademark. She once told a reporter her and her colleagues wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day.
NOW: Linda continued to work steadily. Some of her recent work include ad campaigns for Prada, Talbots, and John Gilliano.
THEN: Jenny made a name for herself when she landed the role as the cohost of “Singled Out.” She later starred in the comedy show “The Jenny McCarthy Show.”
NOW: Jenny is now a mother to a son named Evan. Her attention has turned to advocating for parents to be aware of the potentially damaging links between vaccines and autism.
THEN: Halle made a breakthrough when she starred alongside legendary Eddie Murphy in the comedy film “Boomerang.” The film led to other roles in films such as “The Flintstones,” “Bulworth,” and “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.” She won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe award for best actress, among other rewards.
NOW: Halle Berry continued her acting career and landed roles like “Catwoman” and “X-Men.” She is the mother of two kids named Nahla and Maceo.
THEN: Kathy was another 90s hot supermodel. She had 13 consecutive appearances in Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit editions. Kathy was actually on the cover the best-selling issue in the history of the magazine.
NOW: Kathy is now the world’s richest supermodel businesswoman. She is the majority owner and CEO of Kathy Ireland Worldwide. Her company sells about $2 billion in home goods products.
THEN: Heidi was known in the 90s for her reign as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She actually reigned for 13 years!
NOW: Klum has four kids now and was married for seven years to R&B sensation Seal. She is currently dating her former bodyguard Martin Kristen. Klum also designs athletic wear under the label Heidi Klum for New Balance.
THEN: Karen was one of the world’s leading supermodels during the 90s. This sexy symbol would rake in thousands of dollars every time she appeared on the catwalk.
NOW: Mulder has traded in the catwalk for mom duty. She enjoys spending time with her daughter at the beach playing in the sand.
THEN: This sexy symbol was the face of Missoni, Valentino, Chanel, Revlon, and Calvin Klein in the 90s.
NOW: Christy is now a yoga devotee and has launched two active wear brands, Nuala and Mahnuala. She is also a partner in the all-natural ayurvedic skincare line, Sundari. Christy is currently married to the actor/director Ed Burns.
THEN: Helena was a former Miss Denmark, but her rise to fame came after appearing in Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” music video. The music video led to contract with Cover Girl and Victoria’s Secret.
NOW: Helena went on to co-find Nylon magazine, co-own a New York city boutique, and co-design a line of jewelry for Pilgrim.
THEN: Tyra became well known in the 90s for her sexy curves and being the first African-American model to grace the cover of GQ as well as the first to cover Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit edition.
NOW: Tyra left the modeling world, but not completely. She is now the creator, producer and star of the hit TV series, “America’s Next Top Model.”
Jennifer Love Hewitt
THEN: The breathtakingly beautiful Jenny stole the hearts of all men who dreamed of getting the dream girl when she starred in the film “Can’t Hardly Wait.” The film became a 90s classic.
NOW: Hewitt is now the wife of Brian Hallisay. They have one child and a second on the way.
THEN: At the young age of 17, New Zealand supermodel became a Sports Illustrated model.
NOW: Rachel continued her modeling career and posed nude for a cover-featured Playboy pictorial. She married Rod Steward, but the couple is now divorced.
THEN: This sex symbol got her fame for being one of the original Victoria’s Secret Angels and dating Axl Rose.
NOW: The celebrity couple has since divorced. Stephanie later married Peter Brand and after six months of very ugly public divorce proceedings, Stephanie and Brant have reconciled with their wealthy newsprint magnate. They have three kids together. Seymour still moonlights as a model.
THEN: In the 90s Australian supermodel, Elle Macpherson, was known within the industry as “The Body.” The leggy blonde appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue a record of five times.
NOW: Macpherson left the modeling industry and became an entrepreneur. She has a signature lingerie line, Macpherson Intimates. You can find it stocked at Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus. Macpherson also launched her own skincare collection called “The Body.”
THEN: Jennifer earned crushes galore for starring and being the favorite in the hit TV series “Friends.” She quickly became one of America’s sweethearts.
NOW: After the series ended Jennifer went on to play many roles in Hollywood films. She is the co-owner of Living Proof hair care and has several movies in the works.
THEN: Carmen gained her fame after she posed nude for Playboy in 1996. The blue-eyed beauty landed a role in the hit TV series “Baywatch,” as Lani McKenzie.
NOW: Carmen continues to appear in movies, but her romantic relationships seem to get more press than her professional accomplishments. She recently made the news after tweeting a picture of her and her ex Dave Navarro with their tongues touching.
THEN: Tiffani’s next door charm as Kelly from “Saved by the Bell captured the hearts of men. After the show, she ditched the good girl image to play vixen Valerie Malone on “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
NOW: Theissen dabbled in film throughout the 90s, but her career never took off. She has since had a few roles in a string of unpopular television shows, but is currently starring on the USA Network’s breakout series “White Collar.”
THEN: Cindy was most likely “the” supermodel of the 90s. She earned tons of money and appeared in every magazine. She also starred in a few Pepsi commercials and “Fair Game.”
NOW: Cindy has now left the modeling biz and has launched several successful businesses of her own. She has an amazing eponymous Home Collection and a line of anti-aging skincare products called “Meaningful Beauty.”
THEN: Alyssa starred on the show, “Who’s the Boss?” The beautiful, wholesome girl next door played Samantha Micelli. Milano then traded her good girl image for a sexy vixen when she took on roles in “Fear” and “Poison Ivy II.”
NOW: After the series ended, Milano’s film career never really took off. Fortunately, she built a great career in television. She played huge roles on the series “Charmed” and “Mistresses.” She is currently married to CAA agent David Bugliari. They have a son together and are actually expecting their first daughter!
THEN: We all know Heather as the woman everyone loved to hate on “Melrose Place.” This gorgeous blonde boosted her ratings for the primetime soap and added a nice spice to the plot.
NOW: Recently, Heather has become much more known for the struggles she’s had with alcohol and prescription meds. It seems like things are finally starting to look better. She landed a lead role on the TNT show “Franklin & Bash.”
THEN: When Sharon played Catherine Tramell, the brilliant, bisexual, alleged killer, in “Basic Instinct,” she became Hollywood’s hottest and newest “It” girl. Sharon was unable to maintain her Hollywood following especially after her role in “Casino,” which was followed by box-office bombs.
NOW: Sharon still looks amazing and seems as though she hasn’t aged, but her career hasn’t held up. Sharon isn’t the sex symbol she once was.
THEN: Liv Tyler became a sex symbol after starring in her dad’s Aerosmith music video for “Crazy’ with Alicia Silverstone. She later starred in other hit movies such as “Empire Records,” “Stealing Beauty,” and “Inventing the Abbots.” Of course we can’t forget her role in “Armageddon,” and “Lord of the Rings.”
NOW: Tyler is now engaged to David Gardener, has two sons, and is currently pregnant with her third. She recently met up with her childhood friend Kate Hudson for a friendship reunion.
THEN: This sex symbol was established when Silverstone starred in the movie “Clueless” as a beautiful, fashionable and ditzy high school student. Alicia signed a three-picture deal with Columbia Pictures, but she was never able to have the same success that she had with “Clueless.”
NOW: Alicia hasn’t lost her looks, but these days she’s only making the news for her controversial parenting views.
THEN: Kate moss was responsible for launching the era of “heroin chic” look in the 90s. The English model stole our hearts before she became one of the most controversial supermodels of her time.
NOW: Kate has gone on to marry guitarist Jamie Hince of The Kills and is a mom to Lila Grace. Moss is still an in-demand professional model. She appeared on the cover of Playboy’s 60th anniversary issue the year she turned 40.
THEN: We all remember Yasmine in her Lifeguard uniform running in slow motion in the hit TV series “Baywatch.” Her dark brown hair, blue eyes and voluptuous figure was more than every boy’s fantasy.
NOW: Since the show ended, Bleeth went on to do a few TV movies over the years. Unfortunately, after her arrest in 2001 for possession and driving while impaired, she has left the Hollywood spotlight. Bleeth is now married to Paul Cerrito and the two live in Scottsdale, Arizona together.
THEN: We all remember Christina as the beautiful and ditsy Kelly Bundy from the TV series “Married… with Children.” Applegate had a lot of small screen success. She tried to make a leap from TV to film, but her film career never really took off.
NOW: Christina still does film, but her most success has been on television.
THEN: Most people never really considered Richards a good actress, but in the 90s she’s was one of the biggest sex symbols. When Denise appeared topless in “Wild Things” her sex symbol status was solidified.
NOW: Richards has since left the big and small screen. She now spends her time raising her three daughters while trying to manage her ex Charlie Sheen’s misplaced anger.
THEN: The stunningly gorgeous Heather Graham first became a sex symbol after her starring role in “Boogie Nights.” Her role as a young porn star named Brandi who was nicknamed Roller girl because she never took her roller-skates off made all the men drool over her. Heather then went on to star in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” and “Bowfinger,” to solidify her sex symbol status.
NOW: Since the 90s, Heather has gone on to play a number of roles in big films. She played in big films such as “Anger Management,” and “The Hangover,” just to name a few. Unfortunately, at 44, a sex symbol would seem like quite a stretch.
THEN: After starring in the hit TV series “Dawson’s Creek,” Katie spawned many to crush and heartthrob over her.
NOW: These days Katie spends her time raising her beautiful 8-year-old daughter Suri. There’s also talk that she may be dating Jamie Foxx!
Sarah Michelle Gellar
THEN: Sarah’s shot at fame came when she landed the lead role of the vampire slayer Buffy Summers. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a hit TV series in the 90s and Gellar’s next door looks and exceptional self defense skills captured the hearts of men everywhere.
NOW: After the series, Gellar tried to make it big in film and television, but her latest shows “Ringer” and “The Crazy Ones” were both cancelled. But not to worry, Sarah has a great off-screen relationship with Freddie Prince Jr. and they share two sons and a daughter together.
THEN: In the 90s Witherspoon gained the attention as sex symbol when she steamed things up with her co-star Ryan Phillippe from “Cruel Intentions.” The couple went on to get married and both were crushes and heartthrobs in the 90s.
NOW: Reese continued her acting career and landed an Oscar winning role in “Walk the Line.” She was recently nominated for best actress for her role in the movie “Wild.”
THEN: Barrymore made the transition from kid star in the 80s to adult sex symbol actress in the 90s. She was considered the wild child of the 90s because she emerged from her drug-addled 80s childhood. The beautiful actress landed roles in “Poison Ivy,” “Boys on the Side,” and “The Wedding Singer.”
NOW: Drew Barrymore continues to act in comedy films, except now she’s also a mom, producer, and businessperson.
THEN: This blazing hot rocker with platinum blonde hair, red lips and distinctive sense of style was the sex symbol rockers went crazy for. Those abs didn’t hurt either. No Doubt Front woman, Gwen Stefani, was without a doubt a sex symbol of the 90s.
NOW: Gwen went on to drop hit after hit in her solo career and has begun to dabble in the Television world in shows like “The Voice.”
THEN: Debbe is known as the gorgeous assistant Heidi Keppert on the hit TV series “Home Improvement.” The Tool Time Girl was only involved in a few other films such as “The Spiral Staircase,” “Now You Know” and “Wicked Wicked Games”
NOW: Currently Debbe has left the world of show biz. She is now married to American volleyball player Steve Timmons and they have two children together.
THEN: Rose drew our attention as a hottie by appearing on the red carpet in various nearly naked outfits along with her boyfriend Marilyn Mason. She starred in movies like “Doomsday Generation,” “Scream,” and “Jawbreaker.”
NOW: McGowan was involved in a car accident in which her sunglasses sliced the skin under her eye. She has admitted to having plastic surgery due to the accident, but recent pictures seem to prove something more than reconstructive surgery. Her ever-changing face may even be costing her jobs.
THEN: Eliza had a killer body and exotic looks. She was a natural for the role of Faith, the troubled slayer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” We all thought she was going to make it big in movies, but she never quite made it.
NOW: Although Eliza has steadily worked over the years, she never made it to any big films that people actually see.
THEN: Danielle Fishel played the bright and beautiful Topanga Lawrence on the hit TV series “Boy Meets World.” Due to the show, she cultivated a large following and was even on the cover of GQ’s hottest stars to watch. She was also on the cover of Seventeen Magazine and was one of “The 21 Hottest Stars Under 21.”
NOW: After the show ended, Danielle faded from the spotlight until recently. Topanga fans can now see her on the small screen again on the reprised show “Girl Meets World”
THEN: Gillian captured the hearts of men when she starred on the hit TV series “The X-Files” as Agent Scully. Her fair skin and auburn hair gave her a unique look.
NOW: Gillian tried to make her way into the big screen, but her biggest role was Agent Scully. She now works on the series “The Fall” as Stella Gibson and on “Hannibal” as Dr. Bedelia Du Marier.
THEN: Winona was a quintessential 90s crush. Her pixie haircut, sardonic wit and baby doll dresses made all the boys go crazy.
NOW: Ryder continues to make movies and headlines for looking nearly the same as she did in the 90s, but she is quick to dismiss that attention.
THEN: In the 90s, Slater made all the girls go nuts. He was quite the heartthrob. Slater had major roles in movies like “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” and “Hard Rain.” Christian was also able to make our heart warm in “True Romance.”
NOW: In the late 90s, Slater stopped his career due to some highly publicized brushes with the law.
THEN: Hugh was quite the heartthrob in the 90s. After starring in “Four Weddings and a Funeral” he was internationally known for his handsome good looks and gentlemanly nature. All the girls went crazy over those blue eyes and British accent.
NOW: In the early 2000s, Hugh continued to act in movies. Unfortunately, he never kept the popularity he had during the 90s.
THEN: Andrew played Billy Campbell in the hit series “Melrose Place” and all the girls certainly had a thing for him.
NOW: After the series ended, Andrew gave up acting and became an Internet mogul. He established a website called CafeMom.com. On the website, moms gather to share tip and tricks on parenting, pregnancy, fashion, food etc. I guess all that time spent on set with women paid off!
THEN: In the 90s, Fraser played many roles in many movies such as “George of the Jungle,” “Encino Man,” “Blast from the Past,” and “School Ties.” Fraser really took the sex symbol role after playing the lead role in “The Mummy.”
NOW: Brendan hasn’t done much these days and from the looks of it, he’s lost that muscular physique that all the ladies loved to see.
THEN: Jason was another heart throbbing hunk in Hollywood after playing roles such as Randal “Pink” Floyd in “Dazed and Confused.” He landed a few other successful roles such as “Broken Vessels” and “Spent.”
NOW: After the 90s Jason’s career disappeared. Unfortunately, so did his looks. He was also arrested in January 2014 for assault and disorderly conduct after he got into a fight at a bar in Scottsdale, Arizona.
THEN: Jared earned his heart throbbing status when he played the role of Jordan Catalano, the object of Angela Chase’s – and our – affections in, “My So-Called Life.”
NOW: Jared still acts these days, but most people know him as the front man to the Alternative band 30 Seconds to Mars.
THEN: The 90s wouldn’t be the 90s without the hit series “Beverly Hills, 90210.” Jason played the Midwestern transplant Brandon Walsh in the rich city and all the ladies loved him.
NOW: After the show ended Jason continued acting and later started producing, and directing. Jason admitted to being happy that he survived the challenges of being a famous teenager.
THEN: Lenny was one of the sexiest rock stars of the 90s. He had tons of hits such as “American Woman” and “Fly Away.”
NOW: Kravitz is still looking pretty good. He hasn’t done much in the music industry, but has had small roles in big blockbuster movies like “The Hunger Games.”
THEN: Anthony was another one of the sexiest rock stars. He became a major sex symbol after the release of “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” in 1991.
NOW: Anthony continues to rock out with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and still manages to look pretty damn sexy.
THEN: DiCaprio was king of the world in the 90s. All the girls, boys, women and men were after him after he starred in roles from “What’s Eating Gilbert grape” to “Romeo + Juliet” to “Titanic.”
NOW: DiCaprio continues to play huge roles in Hollywood and the ladies are still drooling over him.
THEN: We loved Pacey back in the “Dawson” days. After starring in “Dawson’s Creek,” all the girls went crazy for Jackson.
NOW: After the series ended, Joshua continued to play hit roles in Television for shows such as “Fringe” and “The Affair.”
THEN: In the 90s Ethan was the perfect archetype. He had dirty hair, arty and always ended up with the girl. Hawke played in “Reality Bites” and “Before Sunrise.” He also managed to marry Uma Thurman!
NOW: Unfortunately, Ethan and Uma are now divorced. But don’t worry, Ethan has gone on to write, direct, and produce. He’s also the father of four children.
Freddie Prinze Jr.
THEN: In the 90s Freddie was a teenage dream. All the girls went crazy for him after he starred in roles like “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “She’s All That.”
NOW: Freddie married one of the other 90s sex symbol icons Sarah Michelle Geller. They have children together and he recently released a family-focused cookbook called “Back to the Kitchen.”
THEN: Foley took the hearts of many when he starred in television show “Felicity.“
NOW: Scott may actually be a bit of a 2010’s sex symbol for starring on the show “Scandal.” He’s also gone on to screen write and direct!
THEN: After starring in the hit movie “10 Things I Hate About You,” Ledge became a teen heartthrob in the 90s.
NOW: In the 2000s, Heath turned into a respected actor before he died in 2008.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas
THEN: In the 90s, Jonathan Taylor Thomas was the ultimate teen idol. After starring in the hit TV series “Home Improvement,” Thomas went on to play other roles including the voice of Simba in “The Lion King.”
NOW: Jonathan quit his acting career to pursue a college degree. He received his grad from Columbia University and has made appearances in shows including Smallville, Veronica Mars, 8 Simple Rules, and Last Man Standing.
THEN: We can’t go through the 90s sex symbols without mentioning a boy band. The Backstreet Boys were arguably the biggest boy band, but we know saying that might cause a fight among boy band fans.
NOW: Backstreet boys have actually been working on a documentary and it’s supposed to hit theatres soon!
THEN: N’Sync was one of the biggest heartthrobs of the 90s. This boy band took off as their voices melted the hearts of teenage girls across the world.
NOW: The band has been long gone for a while now, but certainly not forgotten. Justin Timberlake has kept the spotlight throughout the years with not only his voice but his acting as well.
THEN: Mark spent the early years of his career showing off his abs and pecs. The rapper/actor/Calvin Klein model quickly became a heart throbbing sensation in the 90s.
NOW: Marky left the music industry and focused on acting career, which has paid off! He has starred in many blockbuster hits and continues to rake in the cash. Unfortunately for the ladies, he wears a shirt much more these days.
THEN: Ricky knew what it was like to be adored by the masses after being part of the music group Menudo in the 80s. In the 90s he landed the hot role on “General Hospital,” but his real sex symbol came when he shook his hips on the Grammys singing “Livin’ la Vida Loca,”
NOW: Ricky is now the father of six-year old twin Matteo and Valentino. They were born using a surrogate in 2008. He is currently looking to get married.
THEN: In the 90s Jenkins was a bit of a sex symbol as the front man for the band Third Eye Blind.
NOW: Jenkins continues to write music and tour with Third Eye Blind.
THEN: In the 90s everyone had a thing for the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Will Smith took the hearts of many and has actually kept them over the years.
NOW: Will continues to act and star in great movies. He’s married to the beautiful Jada Smith and has a son and daughter who are quickly making their rise to stardom.
THEN: David went from starring in “Red Shoes Diaries” to becoming a cerebral sexy symbol as Mulder in “The X-Files.”
NOW: David is now launching a singing career and he’s waiting for an “X-Files” reboot.
THEN: In the 90s alternative rock star and front man, Gavin Rossdale, rose to become a sex symbol heartthrob as his band, Bush, rose the charts.
NOW: Rossdale went on to marry 90’s crush Gwen Stefani. Unfortunately they’ve recently divorced.
THEN: Fox gained is sex symbol icon when he starred as the hold eldest child on Fox’s “Party of Five.”
NOW: Since the show Fox has gone on to do films such as “Vantage Point,” and lest not forget the role he starred in as Jack in the TV series “Lost.” He also has a small role in World War Z and will appear in director Miguel Angel “Viva’s Extinction.”
